The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horrow Picture Show was a comedy musical movie released in 1975. The film was a parody of science fiction and horror movies. It was originally released in just a few test market cities and did not perform well. It never went into wide release and at the time was considered a complete failure.
On April Fools Day, 1976, the picture began it's second life. The Waverly Theater in New York City decided to play The
Rocky Horror Picture Show as it's midnight movie. The midnight crowd at the Waverly took to the movie and started yelling and cheering at various parts of the film. Some of the things people were yelling at the screen caught on and became standard lines screamed by the entire crowd. Eventually the film turned into a big party with attendees dressing up as the characters, yelling lines at the screen and dancing to the "Time Warp", one of the production numbers in the movie.
The movie has turned into cult classic. Even today it is played at midnight night showings all over the world. And yes, people still dress up, party, and yell at the screens!
